Carnelian

Carnelian (sometimes spelled cornelian) is a fibrous variety of the silica mineral chalcedony, colored by impurities of iron oxide.

• Carnelian can be cut and polished as a jewel.

• Carnelian can be found in Greek gems of the 6th century BC.

• Carnelian was one of the first stones to be used as a decoration.

• Gold fill has more gold than plated gold.

• Plated gold can lose it's luster and even wear away.
