
Jasper,a granular variety of quartz, is a pretty and inexpensive earthstone. It is a mixture of quartz and iron oxide and may be found in an assortment of colorranges. Jasper is harder than a knife, and will scratch glass. Fine grades of Jasper are polished into gems. Jasper is mentioned in the Bible as part of the breastplate of the Jewish High Priest.
The particular specimen pictured here is very slightly reddish brown with several grayish white flecks.
