Malachite is a beautiful green copper ore with irregular black banding and consists of copper oxide, carbon dioxide and water. It is formed in layers that vary in color from apple green to dark gray-green. The tombs of Egypt have revealed cosmetic jars of pulverized malachite which was used to paint the eyelids a lovely soft green. King Solomon extracted this stone from his copper mines and became wealthy from it. People made bracelets of malachite even in ancient times, in fact, some scholars believe malachite was one of the sacred jewels in the Hebrew High Priest's breastplate.
