Moonstone is a whitish, translucent, variety of the mineral feldspar which can be cut and used as a gem. Light will shine through it, but not so clearly as through glass. The stone also reflects light with a bluish to pearly-colored sheen known as adularescence which comes from inside the stone.
The moonstone is a modern birthstone for the month of June.
